Engineering the Sweet Strawberry Pattern
If you’ve been following along with my journey at Eclectic Spruce, you know about my focus on upcycling—breathing fresh, modern life into forgotten denim and other discarded materials. But recently, I decided to pull back the curtain on a completely different side of my creative brain: Pattern Development.
When I set out to design the Sweet Strawberry Quilted Hot Pad, I knew I wanted to create something that balanced playful, bright summer styling with heavy-duty kitchen functionality. It needed to be beautiful on display, but thick enough to actually handle a hot pan straight out of the oven.
Designing the physical prototype in my studio was only half the battle. The real work began when I sat down to translate that tactile process into a blueprint for you to recreate the hot pads at home.

As an educator, I know the importance of clear instructions. I’ve purchased my fair share of sewing patterns over the years, and there is nothing more frustrating than hitting a step that leaves you scratching your head, guessing at dimensions, or unsure of what to do next
